The Wichita Animal Shelter's newest partner and neighbor is the Kansas Humane Society. The collaboration between the City of Wichita and the Kansas Humane Society on the same campus, creates a unique opportunity for the citizens of Sedgwick County. Stray or lost Animals impounded at the Wichita Animal Shelter are assessed by the Kansas Humane Society for adoptability. If deemed adoptable they are transferred to their facility after the standard holding time. Once at the Kansas Humane Society the animals can be adopted to the public.
Because of the large number of stray or lost pets coming in the Wichita Animal Shelter, the Kansas Humane Society can't take them all. For this reason, the Wichita Animal Shelter is also continuing to work with local Animal Rescue Groups in the hope of stopping euthanasia of all adoptable pets.
