Sign Application Information

Sign applications passing through OCI for approval need to use the Application for Permanent Sign Permit or Application for Temporary Sign Permit. Additional sets of professionally drawn plans or sign designs can be included to show the sign and site location, etc. Applications are required to have, as a minimum, the following information:

  1. All information necessary to determine the exact address of the sign, the name of the sign company, the name of the person representing the sign company, the address and license number of the sign company (complete), the type of sign, the precise length and width of the sign, the number of faces, total sign area and any other information deemed necessary.

  2. On the design section of the form, a "neatly" drawn or designed representation of the sign, drawn to scale (with scale identified in the lower right corner of the design section). Hand drawn designs are acceptable only if they are clearly legible and scaled. Otherwise, straightedge devices, scaled for engineering purposes are required.

  3. Site plans are mandatory for all sign permits. A scaled definitive site plan that shows the location of any other existing sign, the new sign(s), driveway locations, utility easements and property dimensions with clearly marked distances to building(s), other signs, property lines and driveways, must accompany each sign permit application.

  4. An indication of sign height should be indicated on the sign design section that shows total height of the sign and separation from the ground and/or street pad.

  5. Measurements for site triangles and any other important information are required to make a clear decision of legal locations in corner installations and at driveways.

For purposes of spacing, it should be assumed that the property is a single tenant lot first with a 150-foot distance requirement and change that assumption after it is established that a multi-tenant situation exists. The burden of proof is upon the applicant and their client. Either the sign owner or sign installer should provide CUP or BZA information at the time of application, with the application, to the Office of Central Inspection.

If all information mentioned above is not provided with the application, it will be returned to the company for correction with a list of those needed corrections.
