Join The Party!
Wichita residents are once again invited to join thousands of other communities across America in supporting a unique, coast-to coast crime prevention project on August 5st, 2008 to give neighborhood crime and drugs a "going away" party. From 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., residents city wide and across the nation, will be asked to turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside on their block.
For the last seventeen years, the Wichita Police Department has won national awards for its National Night Out program. In 2007 Wichita finished 10th in overall participation in the category of cities with 300,000+ population.
During National Night Out 2008 many neighborhoods will be hosting special activities such as yard parties, cookouts, etc. National Night Out gives people a chance to heighten crime prevention awareness, bring neighbors closer together, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighbors across the U.S.A. are organized and fighting back. Organize a special activity for your neighborhood. Officers from the Wichita Police Department will stop by and visit as many events as possible. The police helicopter will fly over and "spotlight" blocks hosting activities, Let’s get involved and join others across the country in letting criminals know they are not welcome in our community. Start planning your parties now with your neighborhood. For more information contact Officer Michelle Tennyson, Community Affairs 455 N. Main, Wichita KS, 67202, or call 268-4101.
