Production and Pumping

Debra Ary, P.E.
Superintendent of Production and Pumping

Wichita Water Utilities Production and Pumping is responsible for the operation of the City's water production, treatment, and pumping facilities. The City of Wichita gets its water from two major sources. The Treatment Plant softens the water and treats it to meet or exceed all of the State and Federal drinking water regulations.  After the water is treated, it is pumped into the distribution system.  Assuring that all of the water delivered to our customers meets every drinking water regulation is a major goal of the division.

Production and Pumping operates the Wichita Water Utilities' Water Treatment Laboratory, which has been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency as being capable of testing both water and wastewater samples. The division tests the drinking water over 300 times per day to assure that it meets drinking water regulations. The division's 47 employees work at the Raw Water Production Facilities, the Water Treatment Plant, and the Pump Stations.  All of the operators at the Treatment Plant have obtained Class IV Operators Certifications from the State of Kansas, which is the highest certification available for water plant operators.
