The kick-off meeting for the Mayor’s Youth Council is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the 1st floor City Council boardroom at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
Mayor Carl Brewer and members of the City Council will be in attendance. The Mayor will welcome Youth Council members, open the meeting, and provide a brief overview of the City Council. Council Members will spend time getting to know members of Youth Council.
There are 42 members of the Mayor’s Youth Council. They are high school students selected through an application process. The students are listed below.
“I’m eager and excited to work with so many outstanding students,” Mayor Carl Brewer said. “The original members of the Youth Council are young people motivated to become more involved in our community. They are representative of our diverse community. Collectively, they have excelled in the classroom, served the community and demonstrated an interest in public service. The Youth Council will provide them with additional opportunities to engage in activities that will benefit our community.”
The Youth Council is designed to help identify and serve the needs of area youth. The program will provide a forum for youth to discuss and address various community issues.
The Youth Council will meet monthly beginning in July. Upcoming meetings and events will be announced later. Youth Council members will soon vote on 12 executive members.
