Wichita Water Utilities officials today announced newly designed and formatted water bills and notices, improvements that will generate approximately $240,000 in annual savings. The new bills and notices stem from the City Council’s June decision to approve outsourcing of the print and mailing functions of water notices and bills.
“Wichita Water Utilities is very pleased to improve the delivery of billing information to our customers and at the same time reduce costs,” said David Warren, the Director of Utilities.
New delinquent and shut-off notices were mailed on Friday. The notices, formerly bright yellow and pink, are now mailed in black and white postcard format. This new design will save approximately 18 cents per mailing or more than $37,000 annually.
The newly designed monthly water bills, which will begin mailing in September, will contain more historical information and have a separate return envelope. The savings per mailed piece is approximately 10 cents, which is expected to yield an annual savings of nearly $200,000.
The next billing modification will include the option of customers receiving the monthly water bill through email. Customers will still receive a hard copy if they choose. The vendor, High Cotton, will provide a link on the electronic statement that that will enable customers to access the City’s Web site and make the payment over the Web. This will save postage, production and environmental costs.
