The City of Wichita is inviting the public to submit written comment on a comprehensive plan for improving the quality of its storm water. Comments regarding this plan will be taken until October 27, 2008.
The plan is required by the City’s 2007 storm water discharge permit from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). It is intended to improve the quality of storm water that flows into the Arkansas River and its tributaries and streams. The program and public meetings will not include discussions on flooding issues.
The City’s Storm Water Management Program will document continued activities that have been in place over the past 10 years, including street sweeping and storm water sewer maintenance. It also includes consideration of new initiatives such as increased public education and development of building construction practices that improve storm water quality.
For more information on the Storm Water Management Program or to provide comments, contact Kay Johnson, Director, Environmental Services Department, at 268-8351 or by email at kjohnson@wichita.gov. For more information on the meeting, contact Scott Lindebak, Storm Water Manager, Public Works Department, 268-4545. View the City’s 2007-2012 SMP Final Draft and the 2007 NPDES Permit.
