Letters to Editor Issued to USA Today
Mayor Carl Brewer has enlisted the support of key Kansas leaders in letters to the editor protesting the coverage of general aviation by the national publication USA Today.
Gov. Mark Parkinson, Kansas Senate President Steve Morris and Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal have all signed letters to the editor, protesting a recent news story regarding federal funding of airports.
The article by reporter Thomas Frank alleged that smaller airports around the country were receiving a disproportionate amount of federal funds at the expense of large airports and domestic airlines.
The article drew a barrage of protest from the general aviation industry, which accused the publication of a biased and one-sided account of the issue. Last week, Mayor Brewer issued a letter of protest signed by two other mayors in Iowa and Arizona.
