Wichita Water Utilities is working to fix a water main break on Pawnee between Broadway and Emporia. A private contractor doing excavation work in the area is believed to have caused the break around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. The break caused flooding and street damage which closed both west bound Pawnee lanes between Broadway and Emporia and the south Pawnee turning lane. Wichita Police are on scene redirecting traffic. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.

The flooding caused damage to a section of Pawnee which was undergoing repairs. Traffic will be diverted on west bound Pawnee for at least three days while street repairs are made. Public Works staff anticipates it will be at least a week before all lanes of traffic are reopened.

Some businesses along Pawnee are without water. However no residences are believed to be impacted. Wichita Water Utilities crews are on the scene working on the repairs. However at this time, there is no time estimate as to how long it will take to complete the repairs and restore the water service.
