Events scheduled for adults and children
Put together nearly 140-year-old buildings, ghost stories and candy and you’ve got the perfect setting for Halloween events. That setting is, of course, Old Cowtown Museum (1865 W. Museum Blvd.) and there’s no shortage of spooky fun there this weekend. The events include the second annual Historic Haunting at Cowtown and the Hay Hooves and Halloween. Media coverage is welcome. Interviews may be coordinated through Communications Specialist Angela Cato at the phone number listed above.
Here are the activities:
Friday night: Second Annual Historic Haunting at Cowtown, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Join investigators from the Wichita Paranormal Research Society (WPRS) in the Cowtown Visitor’s Center as they reveal many months’ worth of findings to determine if Cowtown really is haunted. During multiple overnight investigations at Cowtown, the group gathered video footage and personal experiences that might impress even the strongest ghost skeptics out there. After watching some of WPRS’ video findings, attendees will take tours of the “haunted” Cowtown buildings. The event is geared toward a more mature audience and there are a limited number of $15 tickets still available. Reservations are required, and tickets may be reserved by contacting Cassie Fahey at (316) 350-3321.
This weekend: Hay Hooves and Halloween, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Saturday); noon to 4:30 p.m. (Sunday)
In addition to enjoying all of the haunted sights and sounds around the museum, kids – in or out of costume – are invited with their families to go trick-or-treating in all of the historic buildings. There will be fortune tellers, a mad scientist and even a graveyard wedding to thrill the youngsters. Entre Nous Victorian Dance Club will be presenting a Costume Ball at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 in Turnverein Hall. Cowtown’s Volunteer Corps is organizing this fun and family-friendly event. Admission to Hay Hooves and Halloween is $7.75 for adults and $6.50 for senior citizens. Youth 12-17 years old are $6 and children 4 to 11 are $5.50. Kids under age 4 and Old Cowtown Museum members are admitted free of charge.
