Say, "Goodbye-Crime."
On Tuesday, August 01, 2000, citizens of Wichita will be involved in National Night Out a unique coast-to-coast crime prevention project. Over 32 million people in more than 9,500 communities are expected to join forces on August 01 to give neighborhood crime and drugs a "going away" party.
National Night Out consist of residents citywide and across the nation, turning on outside lights and spending the evening on their porches or in their front yards visiting their neighbors. In Wichita the celebrations should be hosted sometime between 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Many neighborhoods will be hosting special National Night Out activities such as yard parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, etc. Communication is the key to decreasing problems through-out communities, and National Night Out opens the door to increased crime prevention awareness.
It’s not to early to start planning for your neighborhood party, organize a special activity! Officers from the Wichita Police Department will stop by and visit as many events as possible. The Police helicopter will fly over and "spotlight" blocks hosting activities. Police Departments across the nation will be monitoring the evening’s crime activities to help measure the effectiveness of National Night Out.
