Kansas Art Guild Members Will Exhibit Works at CityArts
Competition is healthy - so say the members of the Kansas Art Guild who will be the subjects of an exhibit, "Summer Memories," June 27 through July 10 at CityArts.
The nearly 100 artist members of the Kansas Art Guild don't avoid competing with each other - in fact, they do it every chance they get. A mini juried show is part of each and every monthly meeting of the group, which has been getting together monthly since 1977. Local artists, art educators and arts administrators act as adjudicators for the competitions.
"The group was founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1993," said Vera Davis, member of the exhibits committee. Its mission is "to promote art and encourage the creation of art, and we do that by competing with each other in juried shows at our monthly meetings. We share constructive criticism and explore ideas."
And they'll do it again when the group exhibits their works CityArts. A reception for the artists will be open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 27.
The CityArts exhibit will feature around 50 original works in drawing and painting media - watercolor, oils, pastels, pen and ink and so on. Gallery coordinator Tabitha Bean will be the juror for the show.
The organization meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Wichita Center for the Arts, 9112 E. Central, and is open to any interested artist. Members pay annual dues to participate.
