On Thursday, June 26 from noon – 2:30 PM, the more than 700 students participating in the City of Wichita’s Summer of Discovery program will see a performance of Music Theatre of Wichita’s Footloose at Century II Concert Hall. The Park & Recreation Department organizes this program for children ages 6 to 12 every summer.
Summer of Discovery is an exceptional program that not only teaches, but also entertains. Summer of Discovery is comprised of unique programs offered at area recreation centers for summer. Each week offers a different theme. This week’s theme is acting but other themes include science, crafts, movies and bowling. The program began June 2 and ends August 15 but is closed next week, June 30-July 5, for the 4th of July holiday. Spaces are still available for the remaining five weeks of the program.
Summer of Discovery events take place at the City’s recreation centers: Aley/Stanley, Boston, Edgemoor, Evergreen, Linwood, McAdams, Orchard, Osage and Lynette Woodard. This program is licensed by KDHE. Weekly sessions are $75 per child, per week. Classes are from 7 AM – 6 PM, which allows early drop off and late pick up for the parents who work. For more information, contact the City of Wichita Park & Recreation Department at 268-4361 or your local recreation center.
