Mayor Carlos Mayans has been named one of the nation’s 42 most influential Latino politicians by Latino Leaders magazine.

In addition to Mayor Mayans, other notable names on the list include:

  • Al Gonzales, Assistant to the President and White House Counsel
  • Tony Garza, United States Ambassador to Mexico
  • Mel Martinez, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

"It is a tremendous honor to be on the same list as Secretary Martinez and Ambassador Garza," said Mayor Mayans. "And to be a representative for Wichita and the Midwest really speaks volumes for our region and our city."

Mayor Mayans is one of the three mayors listed in the publication. Joining him were the mayors of San Antonio and San Jose. To see the list in its entirety, visit www.latinoleaders.com.

"While it is wonderful to be able to represent my heritage in such a way, I think more importantly, the fact is that we are all Americans," said Mayor Mayans.

"It is my hope this list, and each person listed, sends a message to youth everywhere that there are no boundaries to the levels of success that you can achieve."
