Rat Fink. Big Daddy Ed Roth. Flying Eyeball. Von Dutch. Pin striping extraordinaire. Bettie Page. If none of this sounds familiar, consider visiting CityArts during the month of May when the High Octane Show will be on display.
The first High Octane show appeared on Wichita’s radar in 1997. It featured Kustom Kulture art, two customized cars and two customized choppers, all at the Go Away Garage. The show and the ensuing party was a big hit.
The High Octane show at CityArts will be a toned down version of the original. The bicycle demolition derby and the chicken drop are canceled due to legal reasons. Satan’s Cheerleaders are a no-go because they cost too much money. We’re holding our breath for live music. But we can guarantee very cool art by the likes of Greg Turner, Mitch Willis, Jeffrey Conger, Dennis McPhail, Joe Leonard, David Christiansen and Tabitha Oblinger. And kool kars.
The opening for the High Octane show will be from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 2 and will feature customized cars and choppers. The exhibit runs through May 24.
