A letter received by KAKE TV was turned over to the Wichita Police Department on Wednesday, May 5, and is being treated as possibly being sent by BTK, according to Lieutenant Ken Landwehr, Commander of the Wichita Police Department Homicide Section.

"We are proceeding on the possibility that this letter is from BTK," said Lt. Landwehr. "We have turned it over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They will do a thorough analysis utilizing the latest technology and forensic science in order to determine the authenticity of the letter."

Based on the information contained in the letter, police are again asking for help from the public. Police want to talk to any citizen who recalls a man seeking access to their residence by presenting identification as an employee of a school or a utility company.

"We are specifically interested in talking to anyone who was approached at their residence between 1974 and 1986, by a man presenting himself as an employee of a school or a utility company," Lt. Landwehr said. "Obviously, we are not interested in legitimate encounters. We want to know about situations where a man attempted to get into your house under suspicious circumstances."

Since BTK resurfaced in Wichita in March, police have received more than 2000 tips and leads. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111; they can e-mail information to coldcase@wichita.gov or they can mail information to Cold Case, P.O. Box 9202, Wichita, KS 67277-0202.
