Next week begins a new chapter for the City of Wichita as City Manager George Kolb officially joins the organization on Monday, July 26. Kolb will lead an organization of more than 3,200 employees, one of the city’s largest employers. Kolb was unanimously selected to serve as City Manger by the Wichita City Council on Tuesday, May 25.
Some of the items before Kolb include:

The filling of several Department Director positions - Directors of Finance, Public Works and Personnel.

The adoption of the 2005/2006 Proposed Budget. The Proposed Budget has been presented to the City Council and is currently in the public hearing process. It is scheduled to be adopted on August 10.

A project list of more than 100 projects outlined by the previous administration. Interim City Manager Cathy Holdeman and staff have worked diligently on the facilitation of many of those projects under the policy direction of the City Council and Kolb will be presented with an updated list.
Interim City Manager Cathy Holdeman says that the transition is an exciting time for the organization.
"We prepared the proposed budget on the theme of new beginnings," said Holdeman. "That is truly where the organization is poised right now… to begin a new journey with a new leader. I would like to thank the employees for continuing their hard work and dedication through our interim period."
On Kolb’s first day, he will meet with City Council Members, City Manager’s Office staff, and Department Directors, as well as prepare for Tuesday’s City Council Workshop.
He will meet with members of the media from 11-11:30 AM, Monday, in the City Manager’s Office.
