Rich Karlgaard, Forbes magazine’s "Flying Publisher," featured Wichita in his book, Life 2.0: How People Across America Are Transforming Their Lives by Finding the Where of Their Happiness.
In the chapter entitled, "150 Cheap Places to Live," Wichita was featured on a list of "Fifteen More Bohemian Bargains to Consider." Karlgaard defined bohemian bargains as "core cities in the 150,000 to 750,000 population range with a lively downtown and a reasonable cost of living."
Joining Wichita in the listing were Buffalo and Rochester, N.Y.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Hartford, Conn.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Kansas City, Mo.; Louisville, Ky.; Memphis and Nashville, Tenn.; Miami and Tampa, Fla.; New Orleans, La.; Providence, R.I.
"This is quite a recognition for Wichita," said Mayor Carlos Mayans, who has an autographed copy of the book. "People are continuously finding out what a great community we have. Our city has a lot to be proud of and now people across the nation are starting to take notice of all the great things that Wichita has to offer."
