The City of Wichita effort for limb clean-up has continued to progress east and west from the center of the City. Crews continue to move east and west and are working in areas between West Street and the Big Ditch on the west side of the City, and between I-135 and Oliver on the east side.
"Progress continues at a steady pace," said Larry Henry, Maintenance Engineer for the City's Department of Public Works. "The amount of limbs and brush brought out to the streets is overwhelming in some areas." The City has put an unofficial deadline to have the limbs cleaned up by mid-March.
The Public Works Department has asked for help on two main points to keep costs of the clean up effort down for the citizens of Wichita:
-
PLEASE get all of your limbs to curbside as soon as possible.
-
PLEASE dispose of small twigs on your own. The City of Wichita does not have the equipment to pick up smaller limbs - there are 150 square miles to cover.
Brooks Landfill site has been extended for free dumping once again. Wichita citizens are reminded that this free site will only take tree limb debris from the January 4 ice storm. Other types of debris or waste will be required to pay the normal tipping fee. This site will be open through Saturday, February 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site will be closed on Sunday. Brooks is located at 4100 N. West Street.
Citizens may also check the progress of the clean-up on the City of Wichita web site, www.wichita.gov where a map will illustrate the parts of the city already cleared of debris.
