Wichita Mayor Carlos Mayans has been appointed Vice Chair of the International Affairs Committee for the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM). In 2005, Mayor Mayans was appointed to the USCM Advisory Board; earlier this year, he was appointed to the 2006 Nominating Committee, which helps steer the leading municipal organization.
“I appreciate your continued commitment to the Conference of Mayors, and look forward to working with you as Vice Chair of this important Committee,” said Michael A. Guido, President of USCM in a letter announcing the appointment.
"I am honored to serve in another significant leadership role for an organization dedicated to helping improve the lives of citizens. Mayor Mayans said. "The USCM is an influential organization committed to helping improve cities.”
Based in Washington DC, USCM helps mayors facilitate the sharing of local improvements, innovations and best practices. It promotes effective national urban/suburban policy, strengthens federal-city relationships, ensures that federal policy meets urban needs and provides mayors with leadership and management tools. It is the official nonpartisan organization of the nation's 1183 U.S. cities, with populations of 30,000 or more.
