Wichita Mid-Continent Airport is the recipient of the prestigious Airport Safety Enhancement Award. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials presented the award at the FAA Central Region Conference on Oct. 2 in Kansas City. Wichita Mid-Continent won the award by earning a perfect score for a third time on the FAA Airport Certification/Safety Inspection.
The annual inspection determines an airport’s fitness to remain in operation. Inspectors reviewed safety procedures, airport rescue and fire fighting response times, airport personnel training, the airport emergency plan, snow and ice removal procedures, aircraft fueling procedures, ground vehicle movement, runway and taxiway markings, pavement condition, proper safety areas and inspection procedures.
Director of Airports, Victor White, praised a “conscientious and hard-working staff dedicated to making safety their number one priority each and every day. …Earning three perfect scores is extremely difficult in this industry.”
Mid-Continent Airport also received the recognition in 2000 and 2005.
