Robert Layton has asked the Wichita City Council for additional time to consider whether he will accept the Wichita City Manager position. Mayor Brewer has agreed to accommodate Layton’s request and expects a decision after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Last week the Wichita City Council voted 4-3 to select Layton for the position. If Layton accepts the job, Mayor Carl Brewer, Vice Mayor Sue Schlapp and Council Member Paul Gray will begin the negotiation process.
Layton currently serves as the Urbandale, IA City Manager.
The Wichita City Manager oversees 3,100 employees, a $500 million annual budget and a $2.4 billion Capital Improvement Program. The City Manager position has been vacant since Jan.2 when former City Manager George Kolb resigned. Dr. Ed Flentje served as interim City Manager until mid July. Scott Moore currently serves as interim Wichita City Manager.
