Volunteers to deck the halls, trees and shrubs at Botanica
After weeks of laying out cords and screwing in light bulbs, dozens of volunteers will be putting the finishing touches on Illuminations 2008 tomorrow morning, getting the Gardens ready to glow.
From 8 a.m. to noon, volunteers will put bags on luminary boxes and string lights on trees and shrubs. At 9a.m., staff and volunteers will float and secure four large, lighted trees on the Boeing Pond. The trees are one of the event’s most recognizable features.
“This event is truly about community,” Executive Director Marty Miller said. “Hundreds of dedicated volunteers give their time to help spread holiday cheer to others and help the Gardens grow.”
Illuminations 2008 is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 5-7 and Dec. 10-14. The event is sponsored by The City of Wichita, Cessna Aircraft Company, Cheney Door Company, Clear Channel Outdoor, Cox Communications, Electric Services, Inc., Fahnestock Plumbing HVAC & Electric, Entercom Radio, Colby B. Sandlian, Westar Energy and The Wichita Eagle.
Botanica, The Wichita Gardens is a public-private partnership between The City of Wichita and Botanica, Inc. All funds raised from Illuminations go to further Botanica’s mission to be a significant horticulture display garden for the enjoyment and education of the community and region.
