Public Works & Utilities crews have been placing brine on local streets since Monday in preparation for winter weather forecasted for today and this weekend.
Officials will continue to monitor the weather and plan to have crews on standby to respond as needed. Crews will be working around the clock on alternating 12-hour shifts. The full deployment of 60 snow plows is available to treat roads during the weather event. Crews will focus on arterial roads, bridges and overpasses.
In the event that a significant number of downed tree limbs result from this event, responders will be activated to begin emergency limb removal once the snow and ice response has concluded. Any tree limb that is blocking traffic or threatening life or property should be reported by calling (316) 268-4003, (316) 268-4004, or 911.
