Brooks C&D Landfill closed today at 1:00 p.m. due to a high wind warning issued by the National Weather Service. Winds are already reaching sustained speeds of 40 miles per hour (mph) at the landfill and are expected to increase to 50 mph with gusts up to 60 mph during the late afternoon. Winds this strong can cause structural and property damage and create safety issues.
In an effort to protect community members visiting Brooks, employees, and equipment from blowing debris, the Brooks C&D Landfill has closed early. The high wind warning is slated to expire overnight and the landfill is scheduled to reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14.
