Child Care Licensing - Protecting Children...Preserving Their World

The Child Care Licensing staff evaluates, investigates and educates Child Care facilities and providers in Licensed Day Care Homes, Group Licensed Day Care Homes, Child Care Centers, Preschools and School Age Programs in Wichita, and throughout Sedgwick County. This program's responsibility is to ensure the local City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Ordinances, Kansas State Laws, and the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) regulations are met so that all children are safe and healthy in out-of-home child care.

Child Care Licensing staff also investigates complaints of unregulated child care or complaints of unsafe or non-compliant conditions in regulated facilities. This program does not regulate Foster Care or other programs that operate 24 hours a day.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2019, a fee increase is being proposed to the Wichita City Council for the Child Care Licensing Program.  The fee increase that is proposed will be 20%.  This increase will be applied to all initial surveys and annual surveys. There will be an incentive for the licensed programs that implement a curriculum for the children in their care. The incentive will be a 10% increase rather than the 20% increase.

The KDHE issued compliance checks and substantiated complaint investigations will be a 20% increase.  The fees for our other services will not increase (trainings, amendment requests, consultations or building inspections).

This is scheduled to be presented to the City Council at the August 20, 2019 meeting.  The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM at City Hall in the Council Room.
