Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The City of Wichita is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of those who visit and work in City facilities and is committed to doing its part to limit the potential impact of the Coronavirus. The City is also working closely with its local partners including the Sedgwick County Health Department which is responsible for managing issues related to public health.

The City will provide additional updates as needed on this webpage, and residents may find more information on the departmental web pages. Residents can view the department pages by clicking on the “Get Information” tab on wichita.gov. From there, they can view the drop down menu and select specific departments which may have more information listed. The City will also share the latest news on Facebook and Twitter.

​Currently Open

The following will remain open with some limitations:

  • City Council meetings will continue as scheduled. However, agendas will be limited to essential business items.
  • City Hall will only remain open for employees in essential positions and for very limited, pre-scheduled meetings.
  • Police and Fire stations, however public tours will be suspended.
  • Transit bus routes will continue to operate on a normal schedule.
  • Brooks Landfill remains open.

​Utility Services

If possible, customers are encouraged to take advantage of online payment options or request service at https://link.wichita.gov.

The City of Wichita has suspended water utility shut offs until April 15. We want to ensure we're supporting the community during this tough time. We will work with those who are behind on their bill to set up a payment plan - call us at 316-265-1300. Residents can also call Center of Hope at 316-267-0222 or Salvation Army at 1-800 -SAL -Army for help paying your water bill.

​Current Closures

The City will close the following facilities beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Wednesday, April 22 at 11:59pm unless otherwise noted. The City will closely monitor the situation and will continue to make facility reopening adjustments as needed.

  • All Wichita Public Library locations will reopen Saturday, April 25.
  • Wichita Municipal Court is suspended indefinitely. Cases scheduled during the span of this suspension will be rescheduled as needed. Please refer to the court docket search for updates regarding your hearing.

    Probation: In-person reporting is suspended. If you are on Municipal Court Probation, contact your probation officer at 316.268.4582.

  • Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department's Neighborhood Inspection division will not accept walk-in customers or appointments

  • Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Center
  • Water Center
  • Great Plains Nature Center (outdoor public area remains open)
  • Atwater, Colvin and Evergreen Neighborhood Resource Centers
  • The Q-Line will not operate. All other Transit bus routes will continue to operate on a normal schedule.
  • Public events and programming such as District Advisory Board meetings and City advisory boards meetings
  • There will be no Keeper of the Plains lighting through 3/29
  • City Hall - City Hall and other city buildings and facilities will be closed to the public.
    City Hall will only remain open for employees in essential positions and for very limited.pre-scheduled meetings.
  •  Public golf courses.
